View Of Women In Islam

Today, Sarah Palin was announced as the GOP candidate for Vice President. Would this be possible in a Muslim nation? Absolutely not. We need to take pride we live in a Christian nation where this is a possibility. Let us take some time to look at how women are viewed in Islam.

Muslims follow the Qur’an and the hadiths. They consider the Qur’an to be the words of God and the hadiths to be the words and deeds of their prophet Muhammad. Not all sects of Muslims agree on the hadiths. That being said, there are some alarming views in both. According to Muhammad women are considered toys. He says that “the woman is a toy, whoever takes her let him care for her (or do not lose her).” Women as a result are treated like property. The Bible teaches we are to love our wives like Christ loved the church. That means sacrifice, even to the point of giving up our lives. In Islam, Sura 4:34 calls on men to protect their wives, but only if they obey. If they do not obey their husband’s commands they are told to beat them as a last resort.

Women are considered to be deficient in intelligence and in religion. The son’s inheritance is twice that of the daughters. And the witness of a women is only half that of a man. It is quite obvious they consider women inferior.

In cases of rape, the woman must have 4 male witnesses to prove the crime. If they don’t produce the required number of 4, they are then accused of adultery. It is reported that in Pakistan, 75 percent of women prisoners are actually rape victims.

This is just a handful of things that speak of how women are considered in Islam. There are many more. I am thankful to live in a country that treats women with the honor and respect they deserve. If Mrs. Palin is the next VP, I am sure that some here will not be happy. But look what happened to Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan. The first woman Prime Minister in a Islamic State, assassinated by extremists.

As Christians, we must stand for the rights of women everywhere. We must also stand against those who treat women in such an unbiblical way. The response by many Muslims, to those who speak against them, is usually with anger and violence. We can not let this stop us. The release of a book about Aisha, Muhammad’s six year old bride, was cancelled due to fear of Muslim backlash. Just an example of how we have already begun to cater to extremist fear in this country. We have come to far to fall back now.

Thank you VOT. I doubt Sarah Palin would back down to PC Islamo-speak either. Then again, chances are most Islamic leaders will probalby poo-poo President Palin (when McCain passes) and not give her the time of day … until she shows them this “inferior” person is capable of far more than they ever dreamed of. May God guide and help her, and may He guide ALL leaders in that respect (Bush, McCain, Obama and whomever sits in “the big chair.”) Its a huge responsibility that requires humility before God Almighty if they’re going to do a “good” job.
“No one is good but God alone,” (Mark 10:18)

    Thank you for the post!
