Sen. Obama has been elected President. What do we as Christians do now? We must honor his position as President. We do not have to agree with everything he does, but remember God has seen fit for him to be elected. So who are we to argue with God? God is in control of all things, so we need not worry. Prayer is very important at this time. We need to prayer for our President and our country. We need to pray that God changes the heart of Mr. Obama on issues where he is off. We need to pray for his safety and the safety of his family.
With that said, it was a historic night for our country. We will have our first African American President. As I listened to the acceptance speech, it was easy to hear the references to Martin Luther King Jr. Jesse Jackson sat in the crowd with tears running down his face. Some have taken shots at Rev. Jackson calling him fake. While not being a fan of Rev. Jackson, I do think he was sincere. He was close to MLK and saw what Dr. King dreamed about finally coming true. It was a night of fulfilled dreams for many in this country. We need to remember the many who have given their lives for a time like this to be possible. I don’t agree with much of Dr. King’s theology, but he stood up against what was wrong. Where are the Christians willing to stand against unrighteousness today? Let us be so bold in our faith that we are either loved or hated. People who we come in contact with should never be indifferent towards us. The issues we were so passionate about during election time, we should still be passionate about months from now.
God changes hearts according to His will. We need to pray that He will change the hearts of this nation back to Him. This country has asked for immorality to be allowed. God will eventually give this country the desires of its heart. If we don’t turn from our immorality, God will eventually give us over to it. He will set leaders in place who give the people what they want. We must press on. The battle just got a little harder. We must pull together and stand in the gap. Seek His face and He will guide us. And above all let’s remember Ephesians 6:12 – For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.
